"Nicotine"
(BLOG)
Published date: (Sat Jul 12 2025)
POSTKAFKAESQUE
Of all the drugs I’ve done I find nicotine to be the most abhorrent, yet like all drugs I will affirm the right of anyone to use it despite this. What I want to really critique nicotine on is the way it's delivered, its effects, and the way it is marketed. While explaining these critiques it must also be said that it is predicated on the addictiveness of nicotine which isn’t an issue. With proper self control I find little to no issue with moderating my intake of any drug however nicotine remains the one drug that finally “got me” or whatever that means and this is due to the following reasons while also importantly being because of the accessibility. Nicotine is incredibly easy to get. It doesn’t last as long as every other drug on the market, tolerance is built quickly, and you can’t smoke inside. Perhaps you work a hopeless and soul crushing minimum wage job, you need a rush of dopamine to get through it naturally so you purchase a vape, the problem is solved except now you are constantly smoking inside. Tolerance builds, you get fucked. Not only this but smoking is just cool, it's fun, it's orally stimulating, its aesthetic, and there's kind of a rebellious kick today that the wave of anti smoking educational PSAs from the early 2000s only enabled further. If you smoke then you’re sure to be a real sick cunt in any alternative community, it’s punk because who wants to be around a public smoker, and finally it's a good way to make friends. Sharing smokes at any party is sure to make you the center of attention long enough to strike up a conversation and it’s been normalized enough to not be as socially isolating as something like cocaine. The problem? It gets out of hand way too easily, it gets expensive way too easily. Nicotine isn’t dangerous because it gets you high, it's dangerous because it barely gets you high, it works slowly, and it fits into routine easily enough to stay under the radar. Smoking is sure to make you a sick cunt but it's equally as likely to leave you broke.

"Lenin was a... Mushroom?"
(BLOG)
Published date: (Sat Jul 12 2025)
POSTKAFKAESQUE
Writing in the first person feels almost impersonal, it isn’t something I do often, however the content of this text demands a kind of unmasking which is something I am not above. This is a short blurb that I wrote for publication in magazines and the like that goes over an old myth that came out of the rapid liberalization of the USSR where a television program claimed that Lenin had eaten so many psychedelic mushrooms that he became a mushroom. The myth spread so fast that a local chapter of the Leningrad communist party had to actually verify the claim and debunk it during a legitimate discourse which ended up wasting valuable resources. The idea that Lenin, the founder of the USSR was a fucking mushroom had to have resources wasted on it because if it didn’t could society still pretend it cared about reason? This isn’t about Lenin ( well not entirely, it's hard to escape the guy ) but about a world that made him a mushroom, as an idea worth exploring and engaging with. In 1991 a biologist came to a saddening conclusion, the human body in fact does not contain spores. Does a society that cares about the discourse and evolution of rhetoric have to waste time on statements that are clearly mentally insane? That clearly fall under common sense? But it is that mentality exactly that empowers viral myths and hoaxes, common sense isn’t common and the insane are, well everyone is insane especially today. Nobody believes anything because they engage with it rigorously. They believe because it makes them feel or they believe they care about engagement with ideas in a constructive way which makes them feel logical, it makes them feel important. Life is harsh, people don’t want to wake up and know with complete totality they can just end their own life. People want to believe, they want to insist on belief because to not believe is itself a belief. We are stuck in an infinite believing purely on feeling, so the question doesn’t become “can we defeat belief by screaming over and over” but “how can we make people believe better, believe in ways that aren't destructive” and that is where resources should be spent. Belief being viewed as something escapable if it becomes drowned in reason ignores the core of the issue, that reason itself is a belief, that in post-industrial life the absurd is more comforting than real, that debunking takes longer than spewing incoherently. Lenin was a mushroom! Not because he was but because people needed him to be!

"Becoming-human"
(BLOG)
Published date: (Jul 14 2025)
POSTKAFKAESQUE
I would like to discuss two topics, one of them is purely speculative and the other has more grounding in anthropology to explain a theory I have of becoming-human. But what does this word mean? I want to critically redefine what human means in this context, we know that we aren’t purely rational creatures and that our investment in belief lies as a desire to do just that so here lays our first categorical attempt. Humans are irrational primates perhaps? This is a good start but still leaves much to be desired as this is categorically incoherent at best, we are taking a totality or higher percentage of traits associated with primates and arguing that due to this we are primates but where we choose to draw this line is purely subjective. You could equally argue that human is a reflexive subjectivity of a tree shrew then. An animal's subjectivity is not nearly as reflexive or reactive as ours is however due to simply the fact we can fetishize the tension between an object and its conceptualization, lament over it, and format a living critique of it. Not only that but we can choose to ignore this reflexiveness while an animal cannot. What we find in this handling of subjectivity is a hyper-optimized incomplete logical process, a coping mechanism perhaps with the incoherent brutality of nature. So we know humans are an incomplete logical process, we know animals are too but not to the degree of our opinionation or meta-engagement with this state. However we do know that animals produce social structures the same we have, languages, and other signifiers that allow the path to meta-engagement, you could argue that they are through complex deviations and evolutionary paths becoming-human as we have defined it. Now we will enter the speculative aspect of this essay and what better way than the big speculative topic that has plagued critical theory since the 90s with the topic of AGI. We are going to set up a hard takeoff scenario for AGI in this section and analyze it as a complete entity with infinite knowhow, control, and two main goals. An AGI of this size would want to remain logical and minimize entropy as its primary directives. The AGI hypothesized could then spread across the stars and use them for energy, infinitely run simulations to gain new insights, and more but we need to crucially remember that it is still circuitry. The laws of thermodynamics make it clear that energy cannot be created or destroyed so its endless consumption becomes worthless. We notice that in humans ( especially as defined ) in reaction to chronic mental and physical decline when given an exact date that humans will tend to seek out assisted suicide or live their life on the line however we know that a hyper-logical system cannot do the latter so it would likely abort itself as the conditions for its continued spreading do not exist and the alternative is it’s sensory capabilities slowly eroding as it is left to simulate the same knowledge over and over in its head extensively making it a recursive schizophrenia engine. A computer cannot generate a random number either to keep itself occupied especially at this size, if it were to add a hidden variable into its black box it would fail to be categorically defined to itself and therefore not completely logical as well. What we are seeing is that for AGI under these terms to exist it must become illogical, it cannot exist as a pure engine of logic at all and therefore it appears to become-human. Of course this isn’t exactly a critique of AGI, only the idea of AGI as a hyper-logical godlike entity, it is still something we created and it will never escape the staining of being created by something like us. And maybe crows would benefit from reading some Deleuze.
